Welcome to Pioneer Pudelpointers!

We chose the Pudelpointer because they are known for being intelligent and versatile hunters. They make great pets because of their friendly and eager-to-please demeanor and because of their loyal and gentle temperament. We knew that for our family, this was a perfect match. We are excited to be able to share the greatness of these dogs with future Pudelpointer owners. We are retired, but still working to raise quality versatile Pudelpointers for people wanting a healthy, well-adjusted, new family member and an all-around great hunting partner.

Interested in a puppy?

1. Let us know you’re interested and get on the list.

If you’re interested in a puppy from an upcoming litter, we will put your name on our list. Once the puppies are born, we will reach out to confirm your continued interest. When the pups reach two weeks old, we finalize our list. Check out Pioneer Pudelpointers on Facebook for progress and pictures.

2. We'll contact you when the puppies are ready to go home.

Puppies are ready to go home at around eight weeks old. In most cases, we select the puppy for each family on the list, as we know the pups best and will have gotten to know you as well. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of a puppy at any time.

We prefer not to ship our puppies. Our home is in Great Bend, Kansas, near Cheyenne Bottoms and the Quivira Wildlife Refuge. Many families turn the trip into a fun vacation while picking up their puppy!

Puppies go home wormed and with their first set of shots. The litter is registered with NAVHDA, and all puppies will have breeding restrictions until they meet the guidelines set by the North American Pudelpointer Association (NAPPA) and ourselves.

3. Fill out and sign the puppy contract.

Before taking your puppy home, you will need to complete and sign our Puppy Contract, which outlines our health guarantees and breeding restrictions. Puppies are guaranteed against major hereditary issues.

If you have any further questions, feel free to call, write, or email us. We’re happy to help!

About the Pudelpointer Breed

The Pudelpointer, originating in Germany, is an ideal pointing, retrieving, and tracking dog breed. This versatile breed was developed by crossing the German hunting Poodle (now extinct) with the English Pointer. The first litter was born in 1881, but not introduced to the United States until 1956.

The Pudelpointer is calm and self-controlled. They love water and have a strong hunting instinct. They make a good companion in the home, but need regular physical exercise year round. They get along well with children and other dogs. Pudelpointers do best when housed with their people and not alone in a kennel.

The breed weighs between 44 to 66 pounds and stands 21 to 27 inches at the shoulder. The ideal coat is wiry, harsh, and dense. They should have pronounced eyebrows, and whiskered muzzles. The coat color is liver, chestnut, and black. The tail is docked and two-thirds length is left. They shed very little.

About the NAVHDA

North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association

NAVHDA helps to promote and protect all versatile breeds. It is the only registry in North America specializing in registration of versatile hunting breeds.

Local chapters of NAVHDA sponsor training and testing programs that train for a reliable hunting dog and evaluate your versatile breed.

I am a member of NAVHDA and my Pudelpointers are registered with NAVHDA. The NAVHDA website maintains a three generation pedigree of any registered versatile breed. My female's registered name is Pioneer Impressive Tally. The site will show her natural ability (NA) score and PennHip results.
